Welcome. Today we have five lessons we can learn from the honey badger.
1/. The honey badger has incredibly tough skin
The honey badger can often survive poisonous bites and stings thanks to their thick skin. The honey badgers skin cannot even be pierced by spears or arrows.
2/. The honey badger is fearless
He will not hesitate to attack a lion, killer bees or a deadly snake.
3/. The honey badger punches above their weight
At only 3-4 feet long and 30 pounds, honey badgers can take on animals up to 15 times his size.
4/. The honey badger is persistent
They may receive a bite from a venomous snake. Where most would retreat, the honey badger will continue to attack.
5/. The honey badger is single-minded and goal focussed
Honey badgers really like honey. Like a lot. Hence the name. There is nothing that a honey badger will let get between him and his honey. They are willing to be stung or even die for their honey.
Honey badgers and financial independence
Honey badgers have got not giving a shit down to an art. For those of us chasing financial independence, we can learn a lot. If you are trying to break free from the shackles of consumerism so that you can find financial freedom you are in the minority. You will get people who find out about your choice of lifestyle and question your choice of living. You may hear comments such as:
“Why do you continue to rent a house? Buying is so much better”
“You should buy more things and live a little.”
“You might die tomorrow, you may as well enjoy today.”
“Retiring early is only for rich people.”
I have heard all these things from people. These are the majority of people that are living the formula of working for 40-50 years and then retiring. Earn and spend on a continuous cycle, lucky if they are saving even 10% of their income. 10% does not get you an early retirement or financial freedom.
To combat the nay sayers you must be part of the minority and dare to be different. You must have thick skin to deal with the doubters.
You must be fearless and not afraid of failure. This path is not as well paved, but the sweet sweet honey is a great reward for your fearless choices.
You must punch above your weight. There will be many that won’t believe that you can achieve financial independence and your plan is doomed for failure. You may not have high income, but you can be just as financially prepared as those on over 5 times your income.
You must be persistent. The math to financial independence is simple. The act of doing is the difficult part. It can take up to several decades so be prepared for a long fight, and if you get hurt like a honey badger, try not to retreat.
You must be goal oriented. Most successful people have strong goals in place of what they want to achieve. If you are highly motivated, you won’t let anyone or anything get between you and your honey.
